Give me nothing fixed, set, static.
Don’t give me the infinite or the eternal:
nothing of infinity,
nothing of eternity.
Give me the still, white seething, the incandescence
and coldness of the incarnate moment:….
…the immediate present, the Now.
….D.H. Lawrence
the mysteries of night and dawn and light and sweetness all echo in the cultivation of descent and then the intimate play of ascent once the threshold of inner beauty is felt….to then share this luminosity is where soul expresses its fluid presence….in the deepest sense, we are coming home….like the easy surprise of finding the perfect shell, we embody our soul when the light is just right…..
Silence comes from the unseen, the beyond, and to experience it is to come into contact with the beginnings of things, to be made new. As Thomas Merton says, ‘The solitary far from enclosing himself in himself, becomes every man. He dwells in solitude, the poverty, the indigence of every man.’ What, then, is the value of silence beyond its obvious calming effect- its gift of tranquility? I would say it can be described as something that brings us into living contact with the mysterious depths of ourselves, the creative spirit, the mysteries of love. I would say that silence is the foundation of love, for love requires clarity, reflection and a focused awareness. In silence I have a sense of becoming aware of the ground of my being and the ground of my life. In silence I sense my own reality. There is a realization that you are what you are….John Lane
The shape of each soul is different. There is a secret destiny for each person. We need to return to the solitude within, to find again the dream that lies at the hearth of the soul. We need to feel the dream with the wonder of a child approaching a threshold of discovery. The false burdens fall away. We come into rhythm with ourselves. If you live the life you love, you will receive shelter and blessings. The divine has such passionate creativity and instinct for the fully inhabited life. Our clay shape gradually learns to walk beautifully on this magnificent earth…..John O’Donohue
